Gouge Rod/Chamfer Rod

(a.k.a. "airless air-arc")

  • What is it?  How does it work?
  • Applications for the maintenance welder:
    • gouging, piercing, cutting
  • Set-up, safe operation, PPE
  • Techniques for:
    • gouging steel & cast iron
    • cutting thicker sections

Time requirement:  30-45 minutes.  (100% shop)

I find boxes of these rods in a lot of shops - construction companies, coal mines, oil & gas companies, farms, city & county maintenance shops - everywhere!  And all too often, nobody knows what they are or how to use 'em.

It's time we changed that!

Gouge rod belongs on every service truck! (with a welder)

You'll find out why when I show you how versatile this simple electrode can be.
